Today we will see the 7 different types of Roofing sheets available in Bangalore for roofing and cladding for Industrial, Commercial and residential requirements. In the last decade, the roofing industry had a massive change, it was due to two basic reasons first due to industrialization and second, the end consumers were not getting the return on the investment done on the traditional options they had. This got an opportunity for different types of roofing sheets.
Before going deep into understanding the 7 different types of roofing sheets available in Bangalore, let us understand what a roof is, and what purpose it solves.
The roof is the uppermost cover area of an industrial, commercial and residential structure, used to protect the occupants(Both living and non-living things) from rain, sunlight, snow, high wind, extremes of temperature, hail, torrential downpours, thieves.
A roof is considered security for the family. And every human being feels proud to own a Roof over his head. (House /Building) for his loved ones. In modern times the roof has become a status symbol.
7 Different Types of Roofing Sheets.
Roofing sheets are manufactured from different materials, each material has its own properties and applications on different types of roofs. Selecting the right roof sheet increase the life span and durability of your roof and value for your money.
Different types of roof sheets come with their own distinctive set of advantages and disadvantages and solve different purposes. Whether the roof is for your residential or commercial, roofing sheets are important for safeguarding your roof from harsh weather.
7 Different Types of Roofing Sheets available in Bangalore are as follows.
- Colour Coated Metal Sheets.
- PUF Sheets.
- Onduline Sheets.
- Polycarbonate Roofing Sheets.
- UPVC Sheets.
- Shingles.
- F.R.P Sheets.
1. Colour Coated Metal Sheets.
The title itself explains that it is a steel sheet for which a color coat has been done. Color-coated steel sheet is also known as a pre-painted steel sheet. We have two different types of color-coated steel sheets namely PPGI & PPGL. They look alike but both are different and both are widely used in the construction industry worldwide due to their durability, economical, and longer life span. These sheets have great fire resistance and the ability to withstand storms without damage.
The difference between the two is in a decorative and protective coating. Pre-painted Galvanized Iron steel (PPGI) is 100% zinc coated, and Pre-painted Galvalume steel (PPGL) is coated with 55% aluminum, 43.4% zinc, and 1.6% zinc. This combines the strength of steel with increased corrosion protection of zinc/ aluminum alloy coatings.
These sheets come in various colors, thicknesses, and lengths.
The width of the sheet depends upon the brands, some will have 3.5ft (1.07M) and 3.6ft (1.09M).
The standard lengths are 8, 10, 12,14,16,18, and 20 feet. This can be customized up to 40 feet.
Thickness ranges from 0.35mm to 0.50mm . For Roofing 0.45, 0.47, and 0.50mm, and for cladding 0.35 and 0.40mm, is recommended.
The regular colors are sky blue, off-white, brick red, and mist green. We have other colors too, which depend upon the brands.
It comes in different profiles such as Trapezoidal Profile (double ribbed, single ribbed-and without Rib) corrugated profile, and Mangalore Tile profile.
All the companies mention their brand mark on the back of the sheet, on one strip at regular intervals which are non-erasable.
Application.

Actually, these are Sandwich PUF panels because these sheets consist of three layers, the core Polyurethane known as PUF is in the middle of two sheets i.e. Top and Bottom will have metal sheets and PUF in the middle comes with tongue-and-groove joints ensuring a perfect fit with maximum integrity, assembly is fast, easy and cost-effective.
Sandwich panels have become a necessity in the construction industry and the first choice for Airports, Exhibition centers, Auditoriums, cold storage, warehouses Marriage Halls, etc. The reason for this choice is due to the excellent insulating and acoustic properties and saves 40-50% energy yearly, and one of the best Fire resistant materials.

Due to the nature of the sheets (Lightweight) Structural weight of the building can be reduced.
Although these sheets are not insulation sheets. The composition of the material makes the onduline sheets Thermal and acoustic comfortable. These sheets are used for Roofing, Over Roofing, and Under Roofing. These Sheets come in two different formats, Sheet and Tile profile with a thickness of 3mm, and come in standard sizes as they are imported in India.

These sheets are widely used in Public utilities (Stadiums, Railway stations, Bus stands, and walkways) and industrial and large-scale commercial buildings due to flexibility, insulation properties, and durability, yet they are lighter in weight. In residential projects, they are used for balconies, carports, and decks.
Corrugated polycarbonate roofing sheets are manufactured with accurate specifications to use in industrial roofs and daylight. The use of corrugated polycarbonate roofing sheets is majorly beneficial in enhancing daylight harvesting. With growing concern over the environment, these types of sheets are perfectly suitable.
